How can I help you

Living with IBS or a disorder of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) can feel exhausting when you have tried everything, your tests come back normal, your symptoms are still real, and you are left feeling stuck or unheard. My role is to help you understand what is happening with your gut-brain connection, reduce symptoms and rebuild trust in your body, so you can create a better quality of life.

What happens?

Gut-directed hypnotherapy is a structured approach that uses guided hypnosis to help calm and rewire the signals between your gut and brain. It is different from generic hypnotherapy because it is designed specifically for IBS and DGBI, rather than broad relaxation or general wellbeing. Hypnosis is just a focused state of relaxed attention and an everyday occurence similar to daydreaming. It is a safe and collaborative process where you are in control and the hypnotic suggestions are tailored to you. Hypnosis can also be combined with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches which together create a supportive and effective framework for change.

First, you start with a suitability call to check that this IBS and gut-brain approach is the right fit for you.

Next, you move into structured sessions in a clear sequence, personalised to your symtoms and lifestyle with progress tracking.

Then, you go away with tools and methods to continue using, so the process feels practical and enables you to maintain progress overtime.

Research

Gut-directed hypnotherapy is one of the most researched mind-body approaches for IBS & other DGBI. Over 40 years of clinical studies, including work from Professor Peter Whorwell and the Manchester team.

The Manchester gut-directed hypnotherapy protocol is considered the gold standard for treating IBS. It was developed by Professor Peter Whorwell and has been researched since the 1980's.

Research shows that around 80% of people experience significant improvements in symptoms, and approximately 81% of people report no recurring symptoms for up to 5 years, with some maintaining results for up to 7 years post-treatment.

Gut-directed hypnotherapy has also been shown to be as effective as the FODMAP diet. Research indicates that 6 sessions over 3 months can be just as effective as 12 sessions over the same period.

NICE guidance includes gut-directed hypnotherapy as an option for IBS, particularly when symptoms have remained difficult to improve through standard approaches.

Who is this for?

This is for people living with IBS or DGBI who want specialist support. It is not for diagnostic needs, untreated medical conditions, or issues outside IBS and DGBI, so you can clearly understand if this approach is the right fit before moving forward.

Healing starts with belief. So thats where we begin.

I Believe...So my gut listens

I Believe...So my body responds

I Believe...So I begin to heal

I Believe...So Hypnotherapy might be the missing piece to your healing journey

What could change?

Gut-directed hypnotherapy works by changing how the gut and brain communicate.

It can reduce visceral sensitivity, calm overactive gut reflexes, and help the nervous system respond more predictably.

Over time, people often find steadier bowel habits, less urgency, reduced bloating, and a more confident relationship with their body.

This is not about stress management alone, its about shifting the underlying gut-brain patterns that drive IBS symptoms.

FAQ

Does this replace medical care?
No. This is specialist IBS and DGBI support that sits alongside appropriate medical care, and it is not a diagnostic service.
Does hypnotherapy actually work?
Yes - Hypnotherapy for gut-brain conditions has been well researched and can help reduce symptoms leading to a better quality of life. It is not a cure or a quick fix and results can vary but with a structured approach, many people see steady noticeable change.
What if I've tried everything?
That is exactly why the work stays structured and specific to the gut-brain connection, as well as being focused on clear next steps rather than generic wellbeing advice.
